        " A Friend's House" Forsyth County Child Advocacy Center provides the following Trainings to prevent further abuse of Children.

Mandatory Reporting:  While everyone is encouraged to report suspected child abuse or neglect, the law requires persons in some professions be required to report.  This class educates the community on those professionals whom are required to report suspected child abuse or neglect and how to report.  Length of training is 2 hours.

 Parenting 101:  Parenting classes are designed to empower those in a caretaking role by teaching skills, tools and supportive resources that are invaluable because, as we all know, kids don’t come with instruction manuals.  Targeted age groups include 0-5 years old, 6-12 years old and 12 and up.  Confident parents create happier families.  Happier families create more confident children.  This leads to stronger families and a brighter future for everyone in Forsyth County.   Length of training is 4 hours.

Child Abuse Prevention/Indicators:  Child maltreatment comes in the following forms, physical abuse, psychological maltreatment, neglect, sexual abuse, and emotional abuse and neglect are our key areas of concern.  The CAC will provide unique and powerful tools for all workers to support the identification, investigation, treatment, adjudication, and prevention of child abuse and neglect.  Length of training is 2 hours.

Forensic Interviews and the Child Advocacy Model:  This class outlines the process of a Forensic Interview, following the RATAC protocol.  This class allows those interested to see how information is gathered from a victim child and/or a witness to a crime in a non-suggestive or non-misleading way.   This class is for information purposes only.  Length of training is 2 hours.

Substance Abuse for Teens:  This class is designed to address and assist teenagers with substance abuse issues.  Substance Abuse ranges from using illegal drugs, alcohol, prescription drugs, and huffing.  Also, the class will aide in the identification of signs of drug use by teenagers. This class is for parents and/or teenagers.  Length of training is 3 hours.

Gang Intervention: This class is designed to assist those involved in recognizing the signs of gang involvement and children at risk of being targeted by gangs.  The purpose is to teach children they should stay away from gangs and why gangs are not in their best interest.  This class is for parents and/or teenagers.  Length of training is 2 hours.

Personal Finance: This class is designed to teach the importance of money management for both short term and long term needs.  Individuals and families will learn how to create and maintain a monthly budget and how to plan for financial goals.  Length of training is 2 hours.

Related Trainings that help individuals with Personal Growth: Using a holistic approach designed to address issues from a collaborative mind, body and spirit point of view which advocates the harmonious development of the total person.  The holistic approach promotes wellness and healthy lifestyles, increases positive coping skills and helps to decrease incidence of negative behaviors.  Programs are designed for both youth and adults.  Programs include:

Stress Management:  This class provides techniques to address conflict resolution, stress and anger reduction, relaxation, exercise, bio feedback, acupressure, nutrition, affirmations, visualizations, massage and communication skills.  Length of training is 2 hours.

Anger Management:  This class provides techniques for healthy ways to handle anger, developing self awareness related to anger, the psychological effects of anger, specific tools to express and diffuse anger.   The target population is for both adults and teens.  Length of training is 2 hours.

 Conflict Resolution:  Teaches positive communication using the “I” messages, listening skills, personal perspective, and empathy to resolve a conflict, and techniques for problem solving. Length of training is 2 hours.
